This adorable little pup is part chocolate lab and part chihuahua. How that pair ended up procreating I have no idea. But the result is the perfect sized (she’s full grown!) perfect tempered dog (she slept on my lap for an hour). I was going to attempt to steal her, but considering it was my first time at her owner’s house I figured it wouldn’t leave the best impression.

The morning after we arrived we became apartment hunting machines. It took us less than a week to find an apartment, which was so amazing and definitely put our minds at ease. We decided that location was the most important factor when deciding on a place, and we found a little bungalow that ended up being perfect. It’s a two bedroom within walking/biking distance to a bunch of stuff and about four blocks from the beach. We went ikea crazy and bought a bunch of new furniture. Joey put everything together in two days it was nuts. After unpacking it really started to feel like home. These pics are a little boring because we really haven’t decorated yet. I didn’t even take one of the bedroom because all it has in it is a bed and a dresser. But anyways here it is!

And here we are at the Grand Canyon! Truly the craziest thing we’ve ever seen. Joey said it looked like a painting. I kept getting dizzy because my mind couldn’t process what I was looking at.

Drivin' Through 11 States

We left on Monday morning and arrived in Long Beach on Thursday night. We made such spectacular time by driving an average of 700 miles a day and spending an average of 12 hours a day in the car. Yikes! We even managed to squeeze in a few hours at the Grand Canyon (photos to follow). While all of our sightseeing was done from inside the car, we did drive by some pretty neat/strange things. Here are just a few shots of the passing landscape.

Nashville, TN

The Arkansas state line, which happens to be over the great Mississippi River.

I imagined the Mississippi to be more intense. Like rapids or something. Oh well.

While driving through Texas, we encountered some crazy fog.

And crazy trees.

Apparently Texas is also the home of the largest cross in the western hemisphere.

Almost there!

Once the flat brown landscape started turning red and rocky, we knew we were close to the highlight of our trip…The Grand Canyon!

On Monday morning we packed all of our belongings into a relo-cube. At first glance it didn’t look like everything was going to fit, and Joey began sorting through things to see what we could “throw over that fence”. We were feeling defeated…until Mr. Scott Luciano showed up! After some strategizing we were able to load the cube.

And amazingly everything fit! Check out the bike on top of the chair! Job well done boys!

And then we were off to start our journey. I still can’t believe it all fit in that thing.

Mother Nature decided to dump 2 feet of snow on the tri-state area. Can you find my grandmom’s car in this photo?

Joey shoveled the driveway like a champ. Show that snow who’s boss!

but the house did look awfully pretty.

We, however, did not.

That’s what I get for saying “I hope it snows before we leave”.

CHRISTMAS GUS DECORATING: 2009

A few days after Thanksgiving, we went out looking for the finest Christmas tree. When we found it we were surprised to learn it only would cost $15. Clearly a mistake for a tree of such grandeur. For proof, just glance below:

Look at that joy! Decorating 2009’s Christmas Gus (the name of all of our trees) has made Holly feel truly alive. Now you may notice that Gus is a bit portly and his branches slightly sporadic and yes, we may have been just a little overzealous with the lights towards the top. But nevertheless, a more lovely tree I have never seen.

Behold! A fully decorated Christmas Gus with Holls and Tabs. What a beautiful and festive sight.

Our eyes were not the only ones to be treated. The decorating soundtrack was provided by A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Beach Boys Christmas, and Phil Spector’s Christmas Album.

Now without photographic proof, it’s hard to say that 2009’s Christmas Gus was the finest yet, but it was…and you’ll just have to take my word for it.
